The third Freestyle Bike Night of the year at our Mark Cross, East Sussex branch on
Wednesday 25th August went down a treat!
With the popular Eastbourne bike night unfortunately clashing on the same evening we lost
some of our regular riders down to the coast. This was remedied however with a large
attendance from members of the East Grinsted based Top of the town bikers group who made a
full scale ride out for the first time! The road bike based group made the trip over to chat bikes,
eat burgers and generally have a good time. A couple of members even had a go at our new
August competition ‘The pillion passenger egg and spoon race’
Speaking of the egg and spoon race, the challenge was simple. Ride a slalom course laid out
next to our showroom, with a pillion on the back and yep you guessed it, that pillion had the job
of keeping an egg on a spoon for the whole course! We had some popular entries from regular
riders and new customers alike. After an early lead from Jim and Reg on the Yamaha fs1e the
lead was taken and held by Dan and Polly, Dan being an accomplished enduro rider pushed on
during the slalom, making keeping the egg in place a little tricky to say the least! After several
attempts Polly managed to keep the egg on the spoon and they took the win and the Pro Green
bike cleaner bundle as a prize.
We were also joined by several members of the Tunbridge Wells Motor Club who drove out to
us in an array of classic, race and rally cars. It was great to see some new customers enjoying
the atmosphere (and the food!) The evening was capped off by an enthusiastic doughnut
demonstration by Seaford based rally driver Barney Lower in his BMW Compact!
With light now becoming an issue for evening ride outs we may look at doing an open day
during the weekend for our next event. Watch this space for details!
