Round 3 of the South East hare and hounds championship took place at Woodberry Lane and hosted by Portsmouth club on 8th May.
The last event run here was Mudfest in January, but Sunday’s race was completely the opposite, Bone dry ground which made for some fast, dry racing. The only problem with that is the ground is like concrete and extremely rough so a tough one on fitness and arm pump.

Race start was at 10.30am and a strong field of 12 champ riders and total entry of 130 were about to blast round the 6-7 Mile loop of woodland. Relatively flat piece of ground but plenty of tight technical sections in the trees, logs and ditch jumps kept us on our toes for the 3hr race.

Flagged dropped and I was 3rd into the 1st corner without any drama. Soon up to 2nd behind Charlie frost after Brett Pocock missed a turn. There I sat for the 1st half a lap riding at a steady pace. 3/4 way round 1st lap and there was a bit of confusion where the track went, unfortunately lost 20seconds or so and Charlie had cleared off along with Aaron Gordon. After getting back to the right track I sat in 3rd and this was me for the race, pretty lonely ride and couldn’t quite catch up to the top 2 and was a few minutes off by the end. A very physical day and was shattered by the time I got home with plenty of blisters to go with it. Great track and was the 1st race on the new steed, Freestyle Husky 300, which ran an absolute treat.
Thanks to all the sponsors who keep the wheels turning and continue their support, always appreciated.
Next one is Sidcup H&H at Canada heights on 5th June. See you there!
